Eolai told me that the cattle dog in "The Man Who Sued God" looked like my baby boy Omar and it's true enough. I suspect that's very much the dog he'll become when he's fully grown.
Unfortunately, Arthur (couldn't find the dog's real name over at imdb) wasn't featured in enough scenes to hold my attention.
The film is only 97 minutes and they limped slowly by while I waited for this to wrap up.
It's not that it's an awful film or that the actors aren't likeable.
Billy Connolly gets pissed (both drunk and angry) when his insurance company fails to compensate him for his boat destroyed which they dismiss as "an act of God." He sues the head clergy of Christianity and Judaism as his representatives on earth.
There's the backstory about how he's a selfish prick but when he falls for Judy Davis' character we get the typical reformation. It's another film telling us that dudes will become decent human beings only when the right pussy is involved.
You see everything coming long before they say it onscreen.
It ends with a corn-pone kumbaya "god is love"moment that left me feeling meh.
The dog is a cutie though.

Oh yeah I remember that flick... the whole Amore Vincit Omnium buzz was sweet in a soft feel-good British sort of way what with the doves an' all. Awww.

If it'd been anyone else but Billy I wouldn't have liked it so much... I'm a die-hard fan of the Big Yin, see.

My dad used to go to work on the same bus as Billy Connolly. He'd crack the place up even at 6.30 in the morning.

I think he got less funny when he shaved his beard off - all Samsonish like. I liked him well enough in Mrs. Brown, though.

Yep, the dog starts well and then just fades from our screens. A waste I reckon.

And I'd have to go along with your summation of it too. Like K8 I find Connolly watchable because, well it's Connelly, but the film is that formulaic feel-good small movie that the smaller film industries revert to all too often.

Hmm. And, I suspect, meh. Will avoid.

I love Billy Connolly. No lie, I'd marry him if I could.

I'll probably give this a look at some point via netflix - 97 minutes is not a huge time investment for a dull film that happens to contain the single most brilliantly funny human being on the planet and a cute doggie.

The Big Yin is god.

K8, I would've been more pleased with an athiest taking god to court. Now that would be novel.

Manuel, how could you postpone movie night when you know LMM has been waiting to see "Pieces of April"? I call foul!

Sam, he has one or two funny moments in this but that's about it.

Eolai, yes, the film was saying look how precious/cute/whimsical this is!

Conan there are far worse films out there and part of me feels bad for not liking it.

Andraste, I will not dispute his comedic talents but there's only so much he can do with it here.
