Who the fuckity-fuck thinks it's a good idea to remake "Pretty Woman"?

Do we really need to revisit that grand fairy tale of the patriarchy wherein all women are whores who can be bought for sex or marriage?

Please make it stop.

Watching Mrs. Moder act is bad enough but Ms. Simpson? My teeth are dissolving in bile at the thought of it.

I thought that film was way over-rated the first time around.

Medbh said...

Over-rated, offensive, and dangerous, Sam. The hooker with the heart of gold mixed with the Cinderella fantasy makes me want to vomit.

How can we stop it though? letter bombs?

blood nearly spurt from my ears upon hearing this news.

And, may I add... "Fuckity-fuck" is my new favorite word.

It never should have been made first time around!

In any case "My Fair Lady" is far superior :P *ducks*

Aside from the subject matter, can they really be that stuck for ideas in Hollywood that they have to remake films made only a few years ago?

Do people like brain-dead fare because they're brain-dead from being served brain-dead fare or does this dross exist because the great unwashed masses are inherently stupid?

ah, yes, the gorgeous sweet and ethical hooker story. played by a woman with blue hair and yellow skin.... sorry, i keep getting jessica simpson mixed up with marge simpson.

that picture you posted of her on the link makes her look demented.

Manuel, nothing can stop Hollywood's stupdity. I hope, however, that this is just wishful thinking on Papa Joe's part since Jessica's movies are now going straight to dvd.

Boxer, Hah! Me likey the fuckity-fuck, too. It's for times like this when a single F bomg somply doesn't cut it.

Caro, it was 20 years ago, wasn't it? That makes me feel old

Laurie, she is demented.

I should add that I used to teach a film evaluation essay when teaching a second year composition course at a university and after the first time I had to put "Pretty Woman" on the list of films they couldn't write about because too many women were choosing it for the project. I was nearly in tears.

BA, sorry to skip you. "My Fair Lady": Le sigh.
You already know what I'm going to say.

That it's the greatest film ever made and that Audrey is an angel sent from heaven?

Or were you just going to go go wih the classic quote:

'Why can't a woman be more like a man?'

Medbh said...

I know you like Audrey, Gimme, and while she's beautiful and all that you cite one of the many reasons to hate the damn film.
Two men playing god and molding a woman as if she were a doll.
Yack.
Speaking of her, I also hate, spit, hate "Breakfast at Tiffany's." When George's character takes her to the NY public library and she says that it's not half as nice as Tiffany's I could smash the television. The only edgy thing about that was that both men and women were whores. Truman Capote was an ass.

laurie said...

oooh i must disagree wity you. the book "breakfast at tiffany's" is brilliant. it's a tragedy. holly golightly is not a role model; she is a tragic figure.

it's a great, great book.

the movie fu**ed it up by making that george peppard charater fall in love with her. in the book, of course, he was almost certainly gay, and his relationship with holly was platonic. and the ending was different.

the movie ain't the book.

Medbh, I totally agree. I have a big problem with Hollywood's jaded attitude to just recycling stuff, but recycling crapola is another thing.

Medbh said...

Laurie, I don't find anything compelling about the plotline, and Capote was a parasite who used people shamelessly.

Too true, Sinead. Why bother to remake this? What would Simpson show us that Mrs. Moder didn't? It's dreadful.

If this happens I really will believe the antichrist is on the planet. What an awful idea.
